Crown goes for Ariba's sourcing jewels

Web-based sourcing technology from Ariba is helping two of Australia's major casinos get their spending under better control.

Crown Limited is using Ariba's sourcing expertise to reduce expenditure on goods and services. Payment is directly linked to the savings achieved, making the arrangement a safe bet for Crown.

Crown operates the Crown Entertainment Centre in Melbourne, and the Burswood Entertainment Centre in Perth.

"The project has quickly identified sourcing savings and will deliver an ROI in the hundreds of percent," said Crown Melbourne CFO Justine Henwood.

"Centralisation of our contract management and spend management negotiations is crucial to reducing duplication across our business units, achieving greater cost efficiencies, greater transparency and speeding up the time it takes to procure and implement contracts," she added. "The technology has also allowed us to create and maintain a centralised contracts repository with rich search capabilities."

The use of hosted software is seen as an advantage for Crown, especially as its two main sites are the best part of 3000km apart.

Ariba's supplier network involves more than 200,000 companies in more than 115 countries.
