Systems integrator Getronics has signed a contract with Queensland Health to provide data communications equipment, services and support to more than 350 locations across the State. The contract forms part of Queensland Health’s health technology upgrade aimed at a more IT enabled public health system in Queensland through partnering with Getronics and other IT providers.
The Queensland Health Information Directorate tendered the centralised IT infrastructure upgrade in January 2005, dividing the projects into three umbrella sections: networking products, support and maintenance, and evaluation and optimisation services. Getronics is the sole supplier for maintenance and support services for Cisco networking equipment deployed in the network, including the integrated services router.
"For some time now, Queensland Health has grappled with the challenge of how best to provide for the support and maintenance of its networks at more than 350 sites across the state, on a 24 hour by 7 day basis. The combination of a large range of equipment types, remoteness, differing business needs, plus the conflicting demands for high levels of service availability and affordability, presented some unique challenges. I am extremely pleased that this opportunity has now been realised and Queensland Health can leverage off the strengths of Getronics to ensure a single point of contact for the provision of high availability services to network users throughout all areas of the state," says Bob Bull, acting manager, communications and networks, Queensland Health.
Paul Timmins, managing director for Getronics Australia, says: "Getronics will be working closely with Queensland Health to deliver an end to end solution across a broad geographic region that involves strategy advice, planning design, implementation support and training as part of these projects."
Cisco Australia and New Zealand Managing Director, Ross Fowler, said: "The importance of networking to the provision of health care services cannot be underestimated. Cisco is excited to be working closely with Getronics to deliver world’s best practice health care networking solutions to Queenslanders."
