Spanish telco, Telefonica, the world’s third-largest telecommunications company, is to deploy an Australian-developed SaaS platform from NEC.
In a deal described by NEC Australia as another
example of Australian innovation being exported to markets across the
world, Telefonica will utilise the NEC SaaS platform to provide a
variety of “innovative” services to small to mid-sized companies
affiliated with the Spanish company.
NEC Australia’s product manager applications and content, Davide
Iacovitti, said today the vendor’s SaaS offering, Applications Net, was
developed in Australia at its Melbourne R&D facility, and
businesses using the service were able to pick and choose from a
portfolio of applications with “fully integrated telephony and unified
communications click-to-call functionality across each.
“It provides third party and NEC-developed software and telephony
services via a single portal to meet all the IT needs of small and
mid-sized businesses.”
According to Iacovitti, leading global carriers were currently driving
the expansion of new service businesses through data centres that
provided a wide range of corporate and private services while
transitioning into IP and broadband connectivity.
Iacovitti said NEC contributed to the development of these cloud
computing services with its “long-standing record of worldwide service
installation for leading telecom operators and its experience
integrating IT and network technologies, including construction of data
centres and service platforms.”
Under the agreement with Telefonica, NEC will construct and provide the
infrastructure platform for a range of application software targeting
businesses and homes via SaaS platforms.
