Downer's Huawei distributor teams up with People Telecom

IT Industry - Deals

Downer Engineering's Huawei distributor arm, the Communications Technology Group (Downer CTG) has signed a deal with People Telecom.

Under the deal "Downer CTG is recognised as a preferred supplier with the opportunity to supply Huawei products and Downer CTG services to meet People Telecom's rapidly growing data business requirements" and "People Telecom will be provided with the opportunity to bid on future services for Downer EDI and its divisions."

Key executives from People Telecom will travel to China next month to further develop the partnership between the three companies.

Downer CTG was launched as a Huawei distributor in July 2005 to represent a comprehensive range of Huawei products from carrier grade core network equipment to CPE for DSL services.

At that time it announced NSC Group (formerly North Shore Communications) and Astron Technology as its first channel partners.

Mike Williams, newly appointed general manager of the new unit, said at the time that he hoped to have about 10 partners by year end. "The Huawei kit can be sold into a number of verticals but we are particularly looking for channel partners who have strong relationships in finance, health and defence."

The People Telecom deal is the first to have been publicly announced since that time.
