Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Broadband VoIP service provider, engin, has gained access to a new market - Australia's defence forces personnel - through a resale agreement.
The exclusive agreement is with Connecting the Community Programme (CTCP), an Australian private sector initiative that delivers welfare support and communications infrastructure to communities around Australia. Engin VoIP services will be offered to defence personnel under CTCP's new 'Stand-to' project, designed to "provide a range of services from corporate Australia, which in turn will enhance the quality of living for today's troops."
Profits raised from the supply of these services will be channelled back to defence personnel via the philanthropic services of the Australian Defence Forces.
The engin service will be offered to Australian army, navy and air force troops in bases across Australia and will enable them to stay in contact with colleagues, friends and family locally, nationally and abroad. A variety of broadband communications technologies are expected to be used to deliver the VoIP services to the defence personnel.
According to engin, its selection as the VoIP provider for Project Stand-to "demonstrates the increasing acceptance of broadband telephony as a true alternative to traditional fixed line carriers."
