Western Australia's BankWest has upgraded its Nortel-supplied network to improve the speed and security of its electronic services for Internet and ATM banking customers.

"We use Nortel's technology to manage our clients' secure online sessions and secure the communication links back to our main servers," said BankWest CIO Joe Deragon. "A big advantage of Nortel's solution is that our servers can be located in different parts of the network and still be load balanced to operate at peak efficiency...The Nortel solution we've chosen provides a reliable, stable, scalable and secured network environment from which we can continue to refine and deliver outstanding customer service."

BankWest purchased a number of Nortel Application Switch 2424s to provide load balancing for various customer-facing applications with end-to-end Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption and acceleration. It has also purchased Nortel application switches and VPN gateways for its main data centre.
