Internode providing free WiFi at the MCG

IT Industry - Deals

Visitors to the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) now have free wireless Internet access thanks to a deal secured with broadband provider, Internode.

With the 2009 AFL season already underway, football fans or visitors to the ground for cricket and other events can access the Internet at no cost through 26 Internode wireless access points throughout the MCG.

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has struck a deal with Internode to become the MCG’s preferred internet service provider, with Internode voluntarily extending its network coverage to provide free wireless web browsing to any MCG visitors with a WiFi-capable notebook, device or mobile phone.

In fact, Internode says it delivered its wireless network ahead of schedule to ensure coverage was available for people attending the Sound Relief bushfire fundraising concert, held at the MCG on 14 March.

Internode has signed a three-year contract with the MCC to provide free wireless Internet access for anyone attending an event at the MCG.  The deal includes access for players, staff, administrators, media, corporate clients and the general public, with Internet access via an Internode and MCG co-branded landing page.

The MCG is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Australia and, as well as hosting around 50 AFL games a year, including finals, it offers a world-renowned stadium for international and domestic cricket. During 2008, the MCG had more than three million visitors to sporting and other events.

Internode’s WiFi coverage is also available, at no charge, to the many thousands of people who annually visit the MCG on non-game days to attend various events and corporate functions.
