Virtualization vendor, VMware, has snapped up a senior manager from Computer Associates (CA) to head up its Asia Pacific and Japan regional business with responsibility for strategic planning, business development and management of key functions for the region, including sales, channels, services, finance and marketing.

Andrew Dutton has been appointed general manager VMware for Asia Pacific with responsibility for strategic planning, business development and management of key functions for the region, including sales, channels, services, finance and marketing.  Dutton reports directly to Carl Eschenbach, executive vice president of worldwide field operations, for VMware.  Dutton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sydney University and in his new role with VMware he will be based in Sydney.

Eschenbach said today that Dutton had held senior positions at CA including senior vice president and general manager of international business, responsible for sales and business operations throughout Europe, the Middle East & Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific & Japan regions.

Dutton joins VMware after more than 27 years of global management and sales experience across various industries, including IT and financial services.  He previously worked with BEA Systems EMEA based in London, IBM Software Group Asia Pacific, Visa International Asia Pacific and Australia's Norwich Union Financial Services Group.

Eschenbach said VMware had experienced significant growth in the fast-growing Asia Pacific region over the last few years and he was confident Dutton’s leadership, deep understanding of technology and strong track record of driving business by building lasting relationships with customers and partners, “will extend VMware’s ability to realise its full opportunity in the Asia Pacific region”.

According to Dutton, VMWare had clearly established virtualization as the fundamental platform to transform both business and government by delivering on the promise to “do more with less”.

“I am excited to join this strong global team at VMware – a team that is leading the way in the virtualization revolution.

“Across the Asia Pacific region, we are focused not only on meeting the immediate need of organizations for quick returns through leveraging virtualization technologies for server consolidation, IT resource pooling and automation, but at the same time, focused on leading the next wave of innovation in virtualization by making cloud computing a reality.

“This two-pronged approach will underpin VMware’s next phase of growth in Asia Pacific,” Dutton predicted.
