Shipments of Cisco's Integrated Services Router have passed the half million mark just a year after launch, making it the fastest selling product in the company's history.
Cisco says it took six months to ship the first 100,000 ISRs and another six months to reach 500,000. "This rapid adoption proves that organisations want to integrate security, voice and wireless services concurrently into their network while maintaining high levels of performance," Cisco claimed. Earlier this year, the company said that the value of these sales was running at $US1 billion annually.
The product, designed for the enterprise market, can be purchased with an inbuilt wireless access point, firewall and intrusion protection and support for voice. It can also be used to run a version of Cisco's main IP telephony product, Call Manager. Normally this requires a separate Windows or Linux server, put is also available to run under Cisco's router operating system, IOS.
