Cisco also announced two more Australian IP telephony customers; Holden and Deakin University, and globally the sale of its six millionth IP phone.
Holden has deployed Cisco's CallManager IP telephony software and more than 1500 Cisco IP phones across its car making operations. Jaydeep Solanki, the manager at Holden for the programme, said: "The two initial applications for the technology were straightforward IP communications and call centre functionality. We are now looking at videoconferencing."
Ross Fowler, managing director of Cisco Australia and New Zealand said that the deal was highly significant because the Australian arm of GM Holden is the first unit of General Motors anywhere in the world to move to IP telephony.
Geelong based Deakin University is using more than 4500 Cisco IP phones for such applications as videoconferencing, which reduces travel costs between the various Deakin campuses.
Cisco also announced that it has now sold more than six million IP phones and more than 300,000 in Australia and New Zealand. It claims that Westpac, which has deployed more than 3000 top of the range Cisco 7970G colour phones to date, was the recipient of the six millionth phone.
