St George Bank has signed a fresh contract with Optus for the supply of communications services.

The bank has been using Optus since 2001. "For seven years, Optus has demonstrated that it has the scale and flexibility to provide commercial and operational efficiency, whilst remaining nimble and responsive to our business needs," said Phil Soutter, general manager, IT production at St George. "This new contract brings our two organisations significantly closer as we partner on projects that create even greater value for our customers.”

Optus will provide voice, data and mobile services to the bank, including the Optus Evolve IP network delivering multiple quality of service levels to St George branches, 3G services for the bank's mobile and Blackberry fleets, and EFTPOS facilities to St George's merchants.

The five-year contract could be worth as much as $A100 million.

"We look forward to extending our relationship with St George beyond traditional communications services by leveraging our end-to-end ICT capability and industry expertise," said John Simon, managing director of Optus Business.

St George is one of Australia's largest banks outside the Big Four (ANZ, Commonwealth, NAB and Westpac). Optus is Australia's second-largest telco.
