Winemaker chooses BEA

IT Industry - Deals

Australian Vintage has chosen BEA Systems' WebLogic Integration to automate its stock control processes.

The system, to be implemented by Melbourne-based Renewtek, will adapt to changes in customer orders and reduce IT costs.

"As Australia’s second largest vineyard owner, we have a huge amount of wine stock to manage," said Ryan Klose, CIO of Australian Vintage. "BEA's WebLogic solution will enable Australian Vintage to effectively plan, control, and manage stock by our coordinating administration systems with our distribution partners."

The company, formerly known as McGuigan Simeon Wines, crushes over 10 percent of the Australian wine grape harvest, and has a presence in leading winegrowing areas including the Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley, and the Adelaide Hills. Significant export destinations include the US, UK and the Netherlands. Its brand names include McGuigan, Tempus Two, and Yaldara.

Although it recorded a $A5.9 million loss for the 2007 financial year and expects the ongoing drought to curtail production, "We expect to make a small profit for the 2008 full year," chairman David Clarke said late last month on the release of the company's first-half results which showed a net profit of $A643,000 after significant items. No interim dividend was declared.
