Vodafone takes another swipe at fixed lines

IT Industry - Deals

Without waiting for Telstra's annual results to come out tomorrow (11 August) Vodafone has seized on those from Optus, released last week, to once again try and write-off fixed phone lines. According to John Casey, chief marketing officer at Vodafone Australia, "The value of Vodafone's Maxi Cap, Super Cap and Mega Cap offers has already led thousands of people to question whether they even need a fixed line phone with its incumbent costs and lack of practicality. Virtually anyone you could possibly want to communicate with now has a mobile device." Citing industry research "which suggests that around 20 percent of voice calls in Australia currently originate from mobile phones," Casey predicted that "it won't be too long before Australia follows the likes of Portugal and Sweden, where around 70 per cent of all calls are made from mobiles and fixed lines become increasingly redundant."
