Telstra & Hutchison say 3G now covers half the population

Telstra and Hutchison say that, one year after signing the MoU, their 3G infrastructure sharing partnership now provides a 3G network covering more than half of the population. A small jointly-owned company, 3GIS, was formed to manage the deployment and operation of the network. Under the agreement, Telstra provides design, construction and operational services to 3GIS for the radio access network. Telstra has had access to what was previously Hutchison's 3G network since 1 July and says it has started internal trials. Telstra paid Hutchison $450 million to gain access to its network.
