Satcomms provider CapRock moves into Australia

IT Industry - Deals

Long-established US-based satellite communications provider, CapRock Communications has moved into the Australian market, opening an office in Perth and targeting companies in the oil and gas, commercial shipping, government services, engineering and construction, maritime, mining and disaster recovery markets.

CapRock, headquartered in Houston Texas, operates five teleports and ten regional support centres around the world. It bills itself as "a single source network provider for customers with operations virtually anywhere on the globe...whether on a ship at sea, an offshore oil platform or a remote mining site."

The new facility will include a regional support centre and a teleport for landing and interconnecting customers' voice and data traffic with networks in-country and around the world. It will be headed by Ian Ford as general manager of South East Asia. He was previously CapRock's managing director for operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The company is privately owned and provides little financial or other corporate information, but does give its annual revenues as $US200million.
