Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Nokia has a battery problem: or 46 million battery problems to be precise. That is the number of BL-5C batteries manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006 that have been installed in 14 different Nokia mobile phones.
Nokia says it has received reports of 100 incidents in which these batteries have overheated as a result of a short-circuit while being charged "causing the battery to dislodge".
Nokia gives no indication of the extent or velocity of this 'dislodgement' but assures us that "No serious injuries or property damage have been reported". And it says, reassuringly that "all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia's knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device."
Nokia says it is "working closely with Matsushita and will be cooperating with relevant authorities to investigate this situation." Meanwhile, it is offering to replace the batteries at no charge to consumers, but note that the offer does not apply to all BL-5C batteries some 300 million of which have been supplied by a number of manufacturers. Details of how to identify the suspect batteries and the Nokia phones that use it can be found here .
