Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Skype connects to VSNL's international global network via the Teleglobe VoIPLink service, billed as "a redundant, scalable and cost-effective way to exchange VoIP traffic worldwide, that facilitates interoperability, quality and codec support."
Scott Bagby, Skype's vice president for new markets, said: "We chose to partner with VSNL for international voice termination services because their services allow us to quickly connect to a true global network without the operational burden and the expenses associated with interoperability requirements. We are able to ensure that SkypeOut users can quickly and conveniently reach their friends, family, and business associates around the world at the highest levels of quality and performance."
Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) is part of India's giant Tata group and is now one of the world's largest international wholesale carriers with more than 415 combined direct and bilateral relationships with international voice telecommunications providers. It claims over 450 customers including the major portal players for VoIPLink, the Teleglobe voice peering service. VSNL is listed on the major stock exchanges in India and its American Depository Receipts are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: VSL).
VSNL was once India's monopoly international telco, and Teleglobe the main international carrier in Canada. In addition to swallowing up these, Tata also acquired the Tyco global submarine cable network which is now also part of VSNL.
