SAP baits the IT skills hook

Software giant SAP has announced that it is extending its two year old Young ICT Explorers competition into NSW, with hopes to offer the programme to Victoria and Singapore next year as part of a bid to encourage school students to use technology creatively and also consider a career in ICT.

Univers-IT entry standards plummet

A number of Australian universities have slashed ICT entrance requirements - going as low as Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks (ATARs) of just 45.55 in some cases - as they scurry to boost student numbers. For employers this means graduate crops of the future could prove uneven - a student with an ATAR of 45.55 studying information technology at Ballarat could prove a quite different proposition than a student who scored an ATAR of 91 studying at the University of NSW.
