Subscription commerce and billing provider Zuora has moved to new cloud infrastructure to support the growth in its business.

Now handling tens of millions of transactions per day, the company has migrated its customers to the new platform, which is provided by Switch Communications, with CoreSite as the hot backup and disaster recovery site.

Zuora is a cloud-based platform that provides an end-to-end solution for operating a subscription business.

Zuora chief marketing officer Brian Bell told iTWire that the switch from one-time purchases to a subscription model "really has resonated globally."

But traditional software systems from companies such as Oracle, SAP and even NetSuite was not designed for subscriptions, and neither does it put customer relationships at the centre.

Zuora itself is offered on a subscription model, he explained (typically charging a percentage of transaction value or according to the number of transactions)'

"We built this business completely as a cloud-based model," said Mr Bell.

Zuora automates a range of processes that are essential to a subscription business, helps to improve decision making, and allows A/B testing (where different offers are made to groups of customers with the same demographics to see which has the best results).

Zuora customers include Box.net, News International, Pearson, VNU Media, and Zendesk.
