5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
According Olivier Rozay, Palm’s country manager for Australia and New Zealand, “The Treo 750, combined with Telstra's extensive Next G(tm) mobile network and various email solutions, will make this an invaluable business tool for Telstra's enterprise customers. Over 5 million Treo smartphones have been sold globally to date, and continuing to expand the Treo footprint is a key focus for Palm. The addition of HSDPA is just one of the great benefits the new Treo 750 smartphone has to offer mobile professionals and businesses across Australia who want a strong mobile-computing experience.” Telstra are also excited, and see the Treo 750 as a strong component of their new ‘Telstra Business’ Division and range of business oriented products and services. Deena Shiff, group managing director for Telstra Business, said that “The turbo-charged speeds on Telstra's Next G(tm) network supports the increased customer demand for content-rich business applications that help improve office mobility and productivity. Telstra is delivering on its commitment to provide a great range of devices to our customers on our Next G network.” As you can imagine, Microsoft also have high hopes. Grace Kerrison, director Mobile and Embedded Devices, Microsoft Australia, said that: "We're excited to work with Palm and Telstra to launch a new Windows Mobile-based Treo smartphone in Australia. The Windows Mobile platform is seeing significant adoption among business users, and the Treo smartphone provides another attractive proposition for organisations considering mobile deployments. The Treo 750 builds on the power and flexibility of Microsoft Windows Mobile, Palm's unique design and user experience, and service through Australia's leading mobile operator, to deliver a winning solution that connects professionals to their business-critical information while on the go." The press release also quotes a happy new customer. Darryl Warren, chief information office of Lion Nathan, said that”"The Palm Treo 750 smartphone is a great mobile device. Its form factor is small enough to fit in my pocket but solid enough that I can easily use a range of functions, including the QWERTY keyboard and navigation buttons without any trouble. What has impressed me most about the Treo 750 is its strong telephony support, which is well integrated and includes features such as voice and picture-dial. On the Treo 750, I am connected to Exchange Server 2007, which allows me to receive my emails on the go as well as sync my calendar and contacts amendments with my office environment. The Palm Treo 750 smartphone is my pick of the current pocket PC devices.” Palm’s latest entrant still has to compete with iMate, O2, Dopod, HP, other Windows Mobile smartphone manufacturers, Blackberry, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and other companies, all of whom offer comparable solutions of their own. Will the Palm Treo 750 be enough to defeat the competition?
While they’ve done a very good job, only time will tell – the competition will be fierce after all. But just as RIM are likely to be working on the BlackBerry Pearl 2, Palm’s labs are no doubt busily working away on what might be called the Palm 850 – a Windows Mobile 6.0 device with even better specifications. But that’s likely months away, with a probable WM6 upgrade for the Treo 750 in the future keeping those who want it happy until the next model launches. |
