id Software announced yesterday their intention to bring the much delayed and formally PC only Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (ET:QW) to the next-gen console world.

PC gamers begin to tremble; your beloved titles are slowly being taken over by the console enemy.  Now it is now longer merely a console war, but a all encompassing platform war.

Well only if you care for those sorts of bragging rights, the only downer I can see in id now naming ET:QW for the consoles, is a further delay to the title on the PC.  At least development of the titles has been outsourced to a degree.  As Todd Hollenshead, CEo, id Software states in the press release; “We're pleased to be working with Nerve and Z-Axis to bring the highly-anticipated gameplay from Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars to the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system,”

Nerve (Return to Castle Wolfenstein) will bring us the Xbox 360 version, whiles Z-Axis (Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX) the PS3 translation.

Players will be able to side with either the invading alien Strogg, or the defenders of humanity.  Utilizing five different player classes, defensive structures, vehicles and a unique take on multiplayer battles, with constantly evolving battlefields and objectives.

ET:QW is still vaguely slated for a “sometime in 2007” release, but we are already looking forward to kicking some Strogg butt on a multiplatform environment.  It is a surprise id have not striven to get onboard as a Microsoft Live title, enabling PC and Xbox 360 owners to battle cross platform.
