A new organization of young filmmakers calling itself movieLOL has started to defend Net Neutrality in Europe by lobbying in the EU and raising awareness through their website, www.movielol.org . They are working together with Member of European Parliament (MEP) Bart Staes who has stated that he fully supports Net Neutrality and will debate it with the European Commission.

According to movieLOL, the internet is the first medium in history that allows for freedom of speech on a global scale. The new group says that it does not matter whether you are a big news site or a casual blogger, everyone is treated equally. This is what is called ‘Net Neutrality’, the group says. Many cable companies, including the leading internet providers in the US are planning to change this, which will lead to massive discrimination and censorship, movieLOL claims.

Net Neutrality has been gaining momentum in US Congress and now Europe is reacting as well. movieLOL is working with MEP’s like Bart Staes who will be mounting a coalition to defend Net Neutrality in the European Parliament.

“Hopefully this will send a powerful message to U.S. Congress to show that implementing Net Neutrality is an important measure to protect internet freedom around the globe,” said Dries Leysen, a representative of movieLOL.{moscomment}
