IT services provider Unisys has been named as the preferred tenderer for an initial five year contract with the Australian Department of Defence to provide IT support services to 460 Defence bases and establishments across Australia.

If negotiations are successful, Unisys will provide a range of second and third level support services for mission critical IT systems and networks, including network infrastructure support, server email and desktop support.

Tony Henshaw, Vice President Outsourcing Services Asia-Pacific at Unisys, said, “Upon signing a contract with Defence, Unisys will provide services that will support the backbone systems of the Defence information environment, and which are critical to the effective operations of the Australian Defence Force and the Department of Defence. For Defence, progress on this tender to the negotiations stage represents a key milestone within the Defence Business Improvement Program, in making more efficient and effective IT services for Defence a substantial step closer.

“We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred tenderer and we are looking forward to working with Defence to finalise contract terms, and plan for a smooth and speedy transition once a contract is agreed.”
