The Month of Apple Bugs' LMH has found another way of malforming a disk image file (DMG) to cause a kernel panic.
"This issue can't lead to arbitrary code execution", wrote LMH, "although filesystem corruption has been observed when other UFS filesystems have been mounted and have pending read/write operations." This means that an attempt to exploit the bug could be more than a nuisance.
"There are other potential issues in the ufs_lookup() function which will be covered by future MoAB releases," he warned.{moscomment}
