By the end of Q1, 2007, OQO will launch a tiny, fully powered PC that runs Windows Vista, comes with EVDO wireless, plays music and videos, runs standard desktop applications, has 30Gb or 60Gb of space, a tablet interface, an inbuilt keyboard and runs for 3 or 6 hours depending on which battery you choose.

The OQO model 2 is the world’s smallest ‘real’ portable computer. While it has a keyboard, which is more like a glorified 'thumb board', it also has an active digitizer, so it's compatible with both the older Windows XP Tablet PC edition, and the extensive handwriting/Tablet features that are just built-in to Windows Vista.

So to enter data, you could easily write emails and see them incredibly accurately turned into text. Given that Vista has built-in voice recognition technology that is also surprisingly good, you should also be able to just dictate as well, providing you’re in the right environment.

Some specs on the OQO model 2: it weighs only a pound, and will fit into a pocket. The processor is either 1.2 of 1.5Ghz, with a claimed six times increase in speed over the OQO model 1, can take up to 1Gb of memory and has a display more than six times brighter than its predecessor.

It has a new ergonomic backlit keyboard and capacitive TouchScrollers for easy input and navigation, along with the active digitizer on the LCD screen. It also has wireless connectivity, including EV-DO Wireless WAN, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

"The OQO model 02 is a no-compromise PC instantiated as a work of art that fits in your pocket, feels good in your hands and gives you a physical connection to your own data plus the whole broadband internet." said Jory Bell, OQO founder, "Mobility is the new way of computing, for true anytime/anywhere productivity." "

The LCD screen has a resolution of 800x480, and has one touch access to many of the computer’s settings and functions including the ability to change screen resolution on-the-fly with dedicated zoom keys.

The OQO also features a new docking station. It adjusts the model 02 position for desktop viewing, and can also easily collapse for portability. The docking station allows you to work at your desk with a full size display, keyboard, mouse, and wired networking, and then take your data and applications on the road with no synchronization required. The dock also includes an integrated slot loading optical drive enabling software installation, data archiving, and audio/video playback at the your fingertips.

Interestingly, the main OQO unit has an HDMI socket, which comes with an adapter to use with standard VGA ports. An optional accessory also lets you connect the OQO to a monitor with a DVI input.

Battery life is rated at 3 hours with the standard battery, or 6 hours with the higher capacity battery. The unit will start at US $1499, but obviously if you get it configured to the max and also get the docking station, the price will be much higher. Visit the OQO website at http://www.oqo.com.
