It's official; we're gonna need a bigger lounge room.
Manufactured at Sharp’s Kameyama Plant No. 2 - the first plant in the world to use eighth generation glass substrates - it's the world's largest LCD - beating Panasonic's show stopper at last year's CES by five inches. Sharp Electronics chairman and CEO Toshihiko Fujimoto, speaking at CES, didn't pass on the opportunity to take a swipe at plasma either; "Clearly, LCD technology is now the undisputed flat-front television leader". Forget home theatre, with a display this big you could set up a home drive-in. There's no word on pricing yet, although the price tag will certainly be equally mammoth. Obviously this is just a "mine's bigger than yours" competition with other LCD and plasma panel makers. Realistically this television will never hit the retail shelves - at 7 foot 10 inches long many people would have to knock down a wall to get it into their home. Better yet, you could buy five, use one as roof and call it a house. There'd obviously be no door but, if you're surrounded by 172 square feet of high definition goodness, why would you ever leave? A man can dream, can’t he?{moscomment}
