Officeworks selling 1Gb Lexar USB 2.0 hi-speed flash drive for AUD $28.45 E-mail

If you live in Australia and have an Officeworks superstore nearby, I discovered a can’t-miss deal that only lasts until January 15 – a hi-speed, brand name 1Gb flash drive for less than AUD $30!

This is definitely a limited time sale, and I don’t even know if it’s Australia wide. But at the Officeworks on New Canterbury Road in Sydney, where I popped in yesterday for some other office supplies, I came across a stand at the payment counter where there were three brands on USB flash drive on sale.

I can’t remember the first brand, but it was a 512Mb USB Flash drive for AUD $27. Then there was that tiny Sony ‘Micro-Vault’, a 512Mb USB Flash drive for around the $30 mark.

In between those two is the Lexar FireFly – a tiny little USB Flash drive that is definitely bigger than Sony’s Micro-Vault, but not by much – and it’s cheaper at $28.45!

The unit has a 2 year warranty, and it also comes pre-loaded with Google Desktop, Google Toolbar and Google Picasa software. While these are freely downloadable from the Internet, they are all great programs to have, and will work with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, or so it says on the box.

The unit itself will work with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. I haven’t tried it with Vista but all my other USB drives work flawlessly so there’s no reason why this one won’t work either.

This sale ends on January 15, and I ended up buying one, even though I have plenty of USB Flash drives already. I find they make great little presents, and when I saw one at this rock bottom price, it was all I could do to stop myself from buying more than one.

Still – it’s a great deal, and if you need a new flash drive, or just want a bigger one, call your local Officeworks first to see if they have any in stock, and if they do, go and get one!

The normal price is AUD $59.98, so this really is a good buy.
