Lots of Christmas stockings are going to be stuffed with iPods, iTunes Store cards and other digital music paraphernalia, if the latest data on search trends is any guide.

According to traffic analysis service Hitwise, the search terms 'iPod', 'iTunes' and 'iPod Nano' ranked at second, third and fourth in the ten most commonly found branded search terms leading to shopping sites in Australia in the month up to December 16.

Despite dominating the category, the Apple music player didn't manage to claim the number one position, which was taken by the Bratz range of dolls and associated merchandise.

GPS systems also made a good showing, with Navman and TomTom both featuring, while the Xbox 360 rounded out the list of ten most popular brands.

Generic searches showed less of a tendency towards technology, but digital cameras, DVDs and sex toys did make an appearance.

The busiest week for shopping sites this year ended on November 25, according to Hitwise. That could demonstrate either an unexpected level of advance planning or an alarming lack of faith in Australia Post.
