GTA coming to Mario's domain?  Nintendo management are pushing for the once PlayStation exclusive franchise.

Nintendo forums are alight at the moment with the possibility of the largest "grown-up" franchise in video gaming coming to a Wii near them.

Nintendo of America's president, Reggie Fils-Aime has appeared recently on US television, discussing the possibility  "Nintendo has done all it can to persuade Take-Two Interactive Software to bring the Grand Theft Auto franchise to Nintendo consoles, and it is now up to the third party publisher to decide whether Rockstar Games' immensely popular series will appear on Wii."

Despite commentators here on iTWire down playing the concept, it does start the imagination buzzing as to the possibilities of the Wii-mote in such a title.

Imagine being involved physically in a street brawl, or needing to actually get the ignition started on a recently "jacked" vehicle.  Immersion rules on the Wii and it will be titles like these that can exploit the concept further, especially for a more adult audience.

Still we will need to wait and see what eventuates - we will know more come 2007's first quarter.  In the meantime it is refreshing to note that publisher Take-two did indeed pledge support for the Wii back in June this year.

Lets hope that it is titles like GTA, and Bully (Canis Canem Edit In Australia and Europe) and the ilk that can expand the Nintendo Wii image from the toy profile it tends to hold now.  The future is looking bright with a strong software line up already available.

GTA Wii

Matt-boon - thing is Matty boy, even if us Wii users only had GTA III, it would still be WAY more fun than GTA IV on Xbox 360 or PS3. The fun, immersive thing is why I'm going to buy the PS3 this summer - as a Linux box...

as much as i would want gta4 for wii, i wouldnt count on it cuz wii cant handle the graphics and people protested against it cuz they said that wii should pnly be kid friendly (no violent games) which i think is stupid cuz they made GodFather which was a great game and rated M for mature only, the same rank as GTA4

Ahh wiifolk. I sold my wii for $300 because the wii is a complete piece of sh*t. Sure, Twilight princess wasan amazing game, but the graphics of the system, and NO good games (except for brawl.....probobly the ONLY amazing game on the system just like melee)Inow have an xbox 360 and it is awsome, so yes, i get to play GTA 4, to its fullest. Somthing the wii even if it gets a gta game, will never be able to do.. And Edward, are you f*cking retarded? Explain how gta 3 would be more fun than gta 4 ON A DAMN PS3 OR XBOX360?????

Jeeeeze, you guys need to get a life.
Sure, video games are great, but who gives a shit about 'graphics and power'. Thats the crap nerds fight over. I mean, I couldnt give a shit if a game had the worst graphics ever if it was realy fun. Look someone once told me this:
Fighting on the internet is like the special olympics; Even if you win you are still RETARDED

Yeah, graphics do make a game good but GTA 4 on wii would still be a good idea, the wii still has good graphics you know, who cares if it doesn't look as good as the others, if you just care about graphics then your just a stuck up nerd. WII RULES!

I always believe that it's the actual gameplay that makes a game great! Who
cares about the graphics. Take a look at games like Deus Ex or Starcraft. Sure,
the graphics aren't as good as the games of today but they're still fun to play.
