At the end of last month I posted my flirt with Microsoft Xbox support. Having dreaded E65 and E66 DVD black screen of death errors.  Well I have been through the process, was it satisfactory?

In my earlier post I detailed the frustration of getting the Xbox 360 black screen of death soon after installing the November firmware upgrade.  E66 and the more mysterious E65 errors appeared indicating a problem with the DVD drive.

Well after some first level recovery failed, it was time to print out the email Microsoft sent me, with the convenient packing instructions and cut out label and head to the postal office.

A couple of days go by and I received a "we have your Xbox" email, so far so good.

A week goes by, I decide to get an update via the easy to use phone service.  Well kind of easy to use phone service, I find that the combination of my perfect spoken Queens English (albeit with quite and Australian drawl) and the "follow the sun" Xbox service team (guessing this one was in mid USA), results in a few repeat conversations along the way.

Anyway - finally I learn there is a turn-around of about 10 working days.  Lo and behold, on a beautiful Sunday morning, the delivery van turns up with my beloved gaming machine, thankfully complete with the Gears of War Disc that I stupidly left in the drive when sending it off.

I set it all up, and load up GoW again, only to find I need to reconfigure my network set up again - Dammit, where did I put the 128 bit wireless key?

So all up, a fine service from Microsoft Xbox support, with only the possible criticism; a report on what work was done.  I rang the support centre, armed with my reference number but am still no wiser to whether the issue was caused by Firmware or Hardware.  I suspect it was Hardware (ie. The DVD drive) but, maybe it is just the Nerd in me, I want to know.

And would be interested to know if any WireTalkers out there have had similar experiences, register and comment.
