Vodafone NZ has launched a web site, accessible only via its customers' mobiles, where users can uploaded and share images, video and audio.

The service, Self Central, is part of Vodafone Live! and has is making its global debut in new Zealand. "New Zealanders have been crying out for a MySpace equivalent for ages," according to Charlie Clementson, head of Vodafone Live!

Setting up a 'room' on Self Central is free and uploading content incurs the standard multimedia message charge (20c to $NZ1). Downloading content from other people's rooms costs 25c each time, and users gain five cents every time content is downloaded from their room. Once they accumulate $NZ5, it is credited to their Vodafone account.

All uploaded content is subject to i24-hour, seven-days a week pre-moderation, meaning that it is checked against guidelines before being uploaded. Each page also has a link through which customers can report a page or its contents as inappropriate. {moscomment}
