Mac Office update an 'accident' E-mail

Microsoft has withdrawn the security updates for Office 2004 and v.X for Mac issued yesterday.

According to the Microsoft Security Response Center Blog, the updates were pre-release binaries "accidentally published to the public websites before our full testing release process was complete."

Microsoft recommends that users who installed the updates before they were withdrawn should uninstall them, but the installer has no uninstall capability and no instructions are provided for manual uninstallation.

Possibilities include restoring a backup of the Office folder made prior to applying the premature update; reinstalling from the original media and then applying the previous updates (fortunately 11.3.0 and 10.1.8 were 'roll-ups' so there's no need to apply a succession of updates); or replacing the seven files affected by the file from copies on a system that had not been the target of the prerelease update.

As of this writing there is nothing about the matter on the Office for Mac Team Blog.{moscomment}
