Watching the price falling on LCD screens?  Waiting for the right time to purchase?  Have you been waiting longer than you needed?

Several manufactures of TFT (thin-film-transistor) LCDs have been issued with subpoenas to appear before an international investigations team.  The US Department of Justice, and the fair trade commissions of Japan and Korea are asking the tough questions of the electronic giants.

It seems that investigators are pushing hard on anti-competitive behavior in the tech industry, with fines totaling over US$600 million being handed out to DRAM (RAM) manufactures earlier this year. October also saw Samsung pleading guilty to another probe into SRAM price manipulation.

This current probe centres around companies artificially lowering output of LCD screens to keep prices from dropping an analyst predicted 25% this year.

Several company spokespeople have commented on this new issue: Miyuki Nakayama of Sharp simply said “Sharp has a policy of fair and ethical management” whilst Cho Sung In, from Seoul’s Samsung had a similar take; “Samsung Electronics is strongly committed to fair competition and ethical practices and forbids anti-competitive behaviour”

After announcing they had been subpoenaed by regulators on Monday, Shares in Philips along with LG dropped 4 percent on Tuesday. {moscomment}
