SanDisk and Sony's Flash memory format just got flashier, with the Memory Stick PRO-HG format tripling the speeds of Memory Stick Pro and boosting capacity to 32GB.

The new Flash memory format uses an enhanced 8-bit parallel interface and increases the clock frequency from 40MHz to 60MHz, offering data transfer speeds up to 480Mbps. Memory Stick PRO-HG is backwards compatible with Memory Stick PRO devices, although only at Memory Stick PRO speeds.

Memory Stick PRO-HG will help Sony's next generation of portable devices - such as cell phones and digital cameras - cope with the exploding demand for portable music, video and photo storage.

The first Memory Stick PRO-HG media will be available in 2007.{moscomment}
