Sun full of NetBeans as new developer tools go open source E-mail

Sun Microsystems is continuing to woo the open source community, launching two new developer toolkits to work with its NetBeans development environment.

Just a fortnight after releasing version 5.5 of the NetBeans 5 IDE, Sun has followed up with the NetBeans Visual Web Pack, for developing online applications, and the NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack for those developers who still prefer coding in more traditional ways.

Sun has been placing increasing emphasis on open source activities. In November, it ended months of speculation by announcing that Java, its cross-platform development language, would be open sourced under the GPL, the licensing scheme most famously associated with Linux.
