Digital video tops CES agenda E-mail

Despite the hype over next-generation consoles and the iPod/Zune rivalry, it seems digital imaging and video tools will be the most-discussed topics at CES 2007 when it kicks off in a little over a month in Las Vegas.

Search data culled from registered attendees at the annual consumer electronics trade show, which typically attracts more than 130,000 visitors, shows that "digital imaging and video editing" is the most commonly searched topic for meetings, followed by the rather generic "personal electronics" and "computer hardware and software".

Although widely viewed as a gadget-fest, CES has shown an increasing interest in video content in recent years, a point underscored by a keynote slot at the 2007 event being given to Disney CEO Robert Iger. This year's $US1.6 billion buyout of YouTube by Google has further spurred interest in content-creation tools.

One notable non-participant at CES is Apple, which stages its smaller but equally-hyped MacWorld event in San Francisco each January.

While in previous years MacWorld has run in the week following CES, this year's event, widely rumoured to be the launchpad for the iPhone combined iPod/mobile phone, is taking place at the same time.
