Global investment and superannuation specialist, Russell Investment Group, and the Trustee of the $6 billion Qantas Superannuation Plan today announced an agreement that will see a Russell and IBM partnership provide member administration services to Qantas’ 34,000-member superannuation fund.

The deal is one of the largest and most contested administration outsourcing mandates in the Australian market, meeting the Trustee’s need for a more cost-effective, efficient and more comprehensive service for the members of the Qantas Superannuation Plan.

Russell earlier this year joined forces with IBM Australia in a bid to lead the Australian market in the provision of total member administration outsourcing solutions to large superannuation funds.  Under the Qantas agreement, Russell will manage all client relationship functions while the administration service centre will be operated by IBM Australia.

Mr Jason Nyilas, Partner, Financial Services, IBM Global Business Consulting, said that despite being a newcomer to the member administration market in Australia, the Qantas win demonstrated that a clear understanding of IBM’s unique ability to transform member administration services was emerging.

“Through a combination of our consulting skills, technology, process delivery capabilities and Russell’s deep industry expertise, IBM is in a unique position to set new benchmarks for this industry in terms of both services and quality,” Mr Nyilas said.

Russell/IBM Australia now administers six of Australia’s top ten corporate superannuation schemes covering 155,000 members and $18 billion in member assets. Administration clients include the superannuation plans for Westpac, BHP Billiton, ANZ and BlueScope Steel, and well as the A$3 billion Russell SuperSolution Mastertrust.
