$2m worth of Xbox 360’s stolen in the UK E-mail

With the PS3 and even the Wii being potentially more lucrative than even a truckload of Xbox 360's, thieves haven’t been deterred and have stolen more than US $2m worth of Xbox 360 consoles.

It’s the second truck hijacking within a month, with the previous hijack netting more than US $12m motherboards and what are rumoured to be Intel processors. Astonishgly, the truck heist has happened to the same trucking company twice – in this case Hellman Worldwide Logistics who must be asking what the truck is going on as they have ordered an internal review.

In the case of the latest Xbox 360 heist, thieves were able to convince a Hellman truck driver that something was caught underneath his wheels. When he stopped the truck and got out, he was beaten up, left by the side of the road and the consoles were stolen.

According to Xbox Today, they report that a spokesman from Hellman said that: “Obviously our primary concern lies with the driver who, thankfully, suffered only minor injuries and has been discharged from hospital. As the police investigation is still under way, we do not wish to disclose any further information about the incident at this stage. However, I can confirm that as a business, the safety of our employees and our fleet is paramount. Therefore, following the event on Monday we have already begun a thorough internal review.”

Local police authorities are reported to have wondered why the thieves hadn’t tried to pick up a truck of PS3 games consoles which would theoretically sell for much higher prices than Xbox 360s, but perhaps this was a smart move by some dumb criminals who thought Xbox 360’s might be easier to sell and easier to conceal as stolen goods, but not being a criminal ourselves we can only speculate.

Microsoft must be somewhat pleased their console is so popular that it’s worth going to so much trouble to steal, but I’m sure their insurance company is not happy and at least on an official level, not only are they really not happy at all about the situation but are also surely wondering whether dealing with Hellman Worldwide Logistics is hell, man... or not.
