The merger between Alcatel and Lucent Technologies, announced in April, has cleared its final hurdle with receipt of approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
CFIUS has given the merger th go-ahead provided that, in time periods specified, the companies execute a National Security Agreement and Special Security Agreement with US government agencies.
The companies say they are moving quickly to finalise the merger and expect to complete it on November 30, 2006, which is within the six-to-twelve-month timeframe given at its announcement.{moscomment}
