It is possible that for a lot of early HDTV adopters, the experience of PS3 games may not be as Hi Def as they hoped for? Is the PS3 slipping further behind Microsofts' Xbox 360 in the console race? Rumours are spreading; there may be a dramatic difference between your "in shop" and home experiences.

Joystiq is reporting that on many 1080i equipped High Definition Televisions - Majority HDTV's that have sold over the last few years - that the 720p rated games will not scale up to that resolution. Unlike the Xbox360, which will scale up to 1080i when needed, the PS3 takes the other route and will downscale to 480p resolution. Since the vast majority of games for the PS3, including Resistance: Fall of Man are rated at 720p, unless you have also shelled out for a brand new HDTV, you may well be wondering what the PS3 power hype was all about. Still it is early days on this report; we have yet to hear from Sony. And those cashed up PS3 fans are probably already saying "whatever, I was planning on grabbing a brand new TV with my PS3 anyway"
