Nokia taps Aussie firm for multi service access technology E-mail

Nokia Networks' Broadband Systems unit is to OEM multiservice access products from Melbourne-based Haliplex.

Haliplex claims that its HPX-800, announced earlier this year, is "the most flexible, modular and effectively managed MSPP series on the market."

At present 90 percent of Haliplex's sales come from the US market, through three OEM manufacturers: Turin Networks, Coastcom and Bayley Communications. It also has OEM arrangements with Motorola and Ciena, but according to marketing director, Matthew Tutty, these companies are yet to implement their OEM agreements Haliplex also sells into Asia under its own brand through a number of value added resellers.

Haliplex announced last month a "cooperation" with Nokia Networks Broadband Systems, saying: "The collaboration will see Haliplex technologies incorporated into Nokia Networks' access product and solution lines," but giving no other details. Tutty said the company could not elaborate on the press release announcing the tie-up. "Due to the complexity of the relationship, Haliplex cannot officially comment on the relationship." However the Haliplex website lists Nokia as one of its OEM partners.

According to Haliplex VP sales, Michael Baccala, "announcement of the Haliplex HPX-800 earlier this year marked the beginning of an important phase in our product offering. Haliplex can now boast the most flexible, modular and effectively managed MSPP series on the market. Our platforms are robust, conforming to the strictest international quality and environmental standards (including RoHS), and responding to the industry requirements of wireline and wireless carriers, as well as public service utilities and enterprise environments. Along with our tightly coupled graphical user interface, HPXView, these edge access solutions are a perfect fit for any network. Grabbing Nokia's attention with this technology has been the greatest testament to Haliplex's progress."

Tutty declined to put numbers on the outcome of the Nokia partnership but said: "Even if we were to capture a percentage of one percent of the market the rewards would be incredible. We imagine that with the backing of someone as significant as Nokia that is achievable." He said the products resulting from the collaboration would be sold by Nokia though its worldwide network of reseller partners."
