Forrester was hired to gauge industry sentiment about enterprise wireless deployments and came to the conclusion that there are five common myths associated with the enterprise adoption of wireless networks. These include misperceptions about limitations, security, ease of deployment and management, and value beyond mobile data. According to Cisco and Intel: "The primary reasons IT professionals cite for not adopting pervasive wireless are: the benefits of a wireless network versus a wired network are not clear; there are security threats to wireless network; the complexity of wireless networks—and the resources required to deploy and support them—are too costly; wireless technology is still not mature; aside from data mobility, the business value of wireless networks isn't evident." They have produced a white paper in which they seek to dispel these myths with information about the capabilities of their respective technologies. However their joint press release announcing their WLAN campaign, suggests that this white paper is an independent Forrester document. "Based on the Forrester Research findings, there are five common myths associated with the enterprise adoption of wireless networks, which include misperceptions about limitations, security, ease of deployment and management, and value beyond mobile data. The research report dispels these myths and provides extensive support to: - Tangible business value for enterprise wireless adoption; - Extensive improvements in wireless security; - Gains made between wireless clients and infrastructure interoperability; - Enhancements of wireless technology leading to maturation from early adoption; and - Use of wireless to support mission critical business applications. The public is invited to attend a live online video broadcast where executives from Cisco, Intel and Forrester Research discuss and dispel the five myths of wireless networks and present in-depth counter points to demonstrate the business value of pervasive wireless deployments. The white paper, Five Myths of Wireless Networks, is available to download for free..." According to Cisco and Intel, the Intel Jones Farm campus uses wireless as its primary access method for data, voice and video. "It is among the first in the world to adopt wireless as its primary access method, successfully addressing issues and challenges such as better performance, system management (RF coverage), increased security (RF interference and rogue detection), client roaming, and quality of service (QoS) for voice over wireless." Intel expects that. when deployment is complete, 75 percent of campus residents will use primary wireless exclusively.{moscomment}
