The Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) has selected Hitachi Data Systems to provide a storage contract valued at $9.8 million over five years, as part of DHS’ four year $324 million HealthSMART technology program.

HealthSMART is a $324 million program that will modernize and replace existing Victorian public health information communications and technology infrastructure with proven, off-the-shelf applications.

The Hitachi Data Systems storage solution will enable the delivery of a wide range of HealthSMART applications to participating public health agencies, including the Financial Management Information, Patient & Client Management and Clinical Systems. During the tendering process one of the Department’s key requirements was that the solution be able to accommodate varying service levels in a shared environment whilst being able to scale to accommodate projected growth over a five year period.

“Putting every application on premium storage is not viable for organisations who need to cost effectively manage large scale growth and varying data requirements,” said Mark Kay, managing director - Australia and New Zealand, Hitachi Data Systems. “Our enterprise level storage solution will enable the DHS to strategically align business applications and storage infrastructure that help reduce cost whilst boosting performance, availability and functionality.”
