Market research in the US has revealed that increased use of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by cable television operators will help boost cable's presence in the telephone service market.

With the total worldwide cable telephony market estimated to pass the 14 million subbscriber mark by late this year, research outfit,In-Stat says that as more cable providers turn to VoIP over the next few years, the total worldwide cable telephony market will even grow to more than 22 million by year-end 2008.

The research company said that the use of advanced IP voice technologies was beginning to attract more cable operators to the idea of delivering voice services, and the buzz surrounding VoIP telephony services had been constant during the past year, with virtually all leading North American cable operators either investing resources to further explore VoIP's viability, or having already actually deployed the service.
