Alcatel says it as signed a global framework agreement with the Vodafone Group to supply "an end-to-end portfolio of product and service solutions" to the Vodafone operating companies worldwide, but has given no indication as to exactly what this might cover.

The company said that the partnership "will help Vodafone to achieve its strategic goals by providing Vodafone operating companies with the option to leverage Alcatel's products where there is a strategic fit," but gave no other indications as to what the deal might cover.

Vodafone struck a similar, non-specific, deal with Huawei in December 2005. It was the first time a telecommunications equipment supplier from China had received approved supplier status from Vodafone's global supply chain.  Huawei scored its first contract under the agreement in August when it was chosen to deliver and install the radio access part of its WCDMA/3G broadband (HSDPA) network in several major cities in Spain.

In February both Nokia and Ericsson were selected by Vodafone Group as preferred suppliers of IMS technology, able to supply to any Vodafone subsidiary around the world.{moscomment}
