"As one of the founding board members of the WiMAX Forum, Fujitsu has contributed greatly to the development and standardization of WiMAX," said Ray Abrishami, senior director, wireless products group, Fujitsu Microelectronics America.

In addition to hardware and software, Fujitsu says its Network Life Cycle Services are an integral part of its WiMAX offering. "These services are available to help carriers create and extend their WiMAX footprint by utilising planning services such as RF engineering, site acquisition and site preparation."

Fujitsu's end-to-end WiMAX solution went on display this week at the WiMAX World Conference and Exhibition in Boston. The company gave no indication of availability.

Commenting on the announcement, US Telephony magazine said: "The announcement gives Fujitsu a unique strategy to the [US] domestic WiMAX market. Though it has no current plans to be handset manufacturer it is one of the few major infrastructure vendors to develop a WiMAX base station and CPE silicon line... Samsung is the only other major vendor to work in both the silicon and radio access spaces, but Intel is expected to take the major lead on chipsets particularly on the CPE side."{moscomment}
