Google has struck deals with Sony BMG and Warner Music that will give users free, advertising-supported access to music videos from these two companies and allow them to download Warner Music videos for a fee.Featured Whitepaper
5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
Sony BMG's music video catalogue will be sponsored by Google advertisers and the advertising revenue generated will be shared by Sony BMG and Google. According to Google, "Web publishers will be able to easily display videos that match the tone of their sites adding value to their online content and creating a new way to earn revenue from their sites. For example, a fan site devoted to a particular artist can run ad-supported music videos from that artist. Each time a user is interested in the accompanying ad and clicks on the video, the web publisher, Sony BMG and Google accrue revenue." The collaboration will also enable Sony BMG content to be incorporated in user-created videos. Sony BMG and Google says they will also work together "to create a groundbreaking new service that will allow music fans to access user-created music video content featuring certain material from Sony BMG's library of recorded music, while at the same time respecting the rights of artists and copyright holders." Google's agreement with Warner Music is similar, but free access to Warner Music's extensive music video collection of "thousands of music videos, artist interviews, 'behind-the-scenes' footage and other artist-related content," is initially available only in the US. In the coming months, access will be made available through Google's partner websites in its AdSense network. And besides providing ad-supported content on Google Video, select Warner Music music videos will immediately be available for purchase as downloads on Google Video for $US1.99.{moscomment} |
