Navini Networks, key supplier to Unwired Australia (ASX: UNW) and Austar (ASX: AUN), has successfully demonstrated its commercial broadband wireless access base station operating in mobile WiMAX 802.16e mode.

Navini demonstrated its Ripwave MX base station, which has been in commercial shipment since April 2006, at the WiMAX Forum Plugfest running 802.16e software with smart beamforming and claimed that it participated in interoperability testing in three different frequency bands. (2.3-2.4GHz, 2.5-2.6GHz, and 3.4-3.6GHz).

"We have been at every Mobile WiMAX Plugfest and look forward to Wave 1 and Wave 2 certification," said Sai Subramanian, VP, product management and strategic marketing, Navini Networks. "Bringing equipment in the three different bands confirms our Smart WiMAX solution will be ready to deliver personal broadband services upon certification."

He claimed that the tests had been conducted "using the exact commercial hardware platform that we currently ship. "We have demonstrated a simple software upgrade to mobile WiMAX." He added: "The same hardware will support both MIMO and beamforming with a simple software upgrade, thus delivering a platform today that can go all the way to Wave 2 Certification."

"We are ready to go as soon as the labs open for business," claimed Roger Dorf, Navini's president and CEO. However no mention was made of the status of user terminals that will support 802.16e.{moscomment}
