Singapore-based PDA supplier Dopod International has entered the Australian market with the launch of  two 3G HSDPA capable, Microsoft Windows based PDAs, one of which is the first device on the market that will operate on Telstra's new 850MHz network, but the first carriers to offer the device will be Hutchison and Optus.

Hutchison expects to have the products on the market in the first week of October. No pricing details have so far been announced.

The 838Pro is a Windows Mobile 5.0 based devices and is claimed to be the first 3G PDA with a sliding (full qwerty) keyboard. It comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera, a secondary 0.1 megapixel camera for video calls, support for stereo bluetooth headsets, inbuilt WiFi (802.11g) and a claimed five hours talk time and 220 hours standby.  A business card reader enables business cards to be scanned, the text recognised and copied into the address book.

The device supports push email when used with a Microsoft Exchange  Server 2003 updated to SP2, making it a potential competitor to BlackBerry, but with the added functionality of Windows Mobile.

The 595 is a traditional candy bar design running Windows Mobile Smartphone edition. It does not have 850MHz or WiFi support but does have bluetooth 2.0 to support stereo headsets. The primary camera is 1.3 megapixel and the secondary, video, camera 0.1 megapixel.

It comes bundled with  Outlook Mobile, ClearVue document viewer for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PDF files, Internet Explorer Mobile, Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, PocketMSN and other applications.{moscomment}
