Wii 2006 release dates and prices announced E-mail

The word is out officially that Japan will have the new generation Nintendo Wii games console in stores on December 2 for the equivalent of about US$212 at today's exchange rates. However, an unofficial report from consumer tech site Engadget states that US consumers will get it two weeks earlier on November 17.

The Wii, which will be the lowest priced of the big three new generation consoles, is a bit more than one third the price of Sony PS3 and about 20% cheaper than Xbox 360.

For their money, Wii users will be able to download cheap games from previous generation Nintendo consoles, with N64 downloads costing just US$8.50 and earlier generation games even cheaper.

Nintendo has promised that there will be at least 25 new generation games available by the end of 2006, costing between US$40-58 based on published Japanese pricing.

The Wii wowed audiences with its innovative motion sensitive wand-like one hand remote controller, when it was put on display at games shows earlier this year.

Nintendo believes it will move about 4 million Wii units by year's end.{moscomment}
